Shanghai Jiani Material Technology Co., Ltd. is a professional company specializing in the production of stone tiles.

Suggestion: When accurately calculating floor tile quantities, an additional 3%–5% allowance for cutting waste shall be included in purchase orders.

Rough Calculation Methods for Floor Tiles, Wall Tiles & Stone Slabs

Floor Tiles

Room floor area ÷ Area of one tile × (1 + 10%) = Total tile quantity

(The 10% in the formula accounts for extra cutting waste.)

Calculation Example

Room dimensions: 5 m long × 4 m wide; Floor tile specification: 400 mm × 400 mm

1. Lengthwise: 5 m ÷ 0.4 m = 12.5 pieces (rounded up to 13 pieces)

2. Widthwise: 4 m ÷ 0.4 m = 10 pieces

3. Total tile quantity: 13 × 10 = 130 pieces

Wall Tiles

Wall tiles come in a wide range of sizes and designs. For quantity calculation:

1. Identify the installation area of each tile specification from construction drawings;

2. Calculate the tiling area for each respective location;

3. Sum up the areas of tiles with identical specifications to get the total area per tile type;

4. Add a 3% waste allowance to the final total.

Stone Materials

Floor Stone Slabs

Waste allowance for floor stone is similar to that of ceramic tiles. However, floor stone requires thicker mortar bedding, and it incurs greater losses during cutting and transportation. A supplementary waste allowance of approximately 12% shall be added during quantity budgeting.

Wall Stone Slabs

Calculate wall stone quantities separately by specification:

1. Compute the total coverage area for each slab size; for intricate and sculpted feature walls, calculate the total unfolded surface area;

2. Divide the total area of each specification by the single-slab area to obtain the raw slab count;

3. Add a waste allowance of roughly 12% to the result.

Wallpaper

When calculating wallpaper consumption, deduct the vertical height occupied by skirting boards and ceiling moldings, as well as the surface area of doors and windows from the gross coverage area.

Larger wallpaper print patterns generate higher cutting waste; therefore, purchase approximately 10% more wallpaper than the theoretical net usage amount.
