Reuse of leftover materials in stone processing

2026-07-06

Shanghai Jiani Material Technology Co., Ltd. is a professional company specializing in the production of stone tiles.

During the processing of natural stone, edge scraps account for approximately 5% of the raw block volume and around one-third of the total rough slab output. Discarding them as waste incurs additional transportation costs, and improper stockpiling poses environmental risks. In fact, these stone offcuts have a wide range of practical applications.

1. Production of kerb and pavement edge slabs for highways.

White natural stone strips are assembled for urban road marking curbs, which deliver high visibility and long-term service performance.

2. Manufacturing of mosaic stone patterns and ice-textured marble.

Mosaic stone is made by bonding small tiles of different colours and textures into large-size slabs. Ice-textured marble is formed by directly assembling offcuts of varied patterns into large panels, resembling ice melting in spring rivers, hence its name. These two types of assembled slabs have distinctive features. With elaborate layout and proper adhesive installation, their economic value is comparable to standard large-size stone slabs.

3. Utilisation of their natural shapes for paving indoor and outdoor floors, wall claddings and park walkways.

Based on differences in stone texture and aesthetic principles of colour matching, the scraps can be pieced together into vivid patterns such as circles, squares, triangles, plant and animal motifs, creating a distinctive, attractive and pleasant decorative effect.

4. Fabrication of electrical insulating materials.

Stone offcuts that meet electrical equipment standards can be processed into switch plates, light switch panels, cabinet boards and other components. They are essential materials for the power industry, and such finished products enjoy strong market demand.

5. Cutting into small-format tiles and mosaics of various shapes for cladding in narrow spaces and local areas such as corridors, flower beds and bathrooms. These materials are durable, easy to clean, neat and aesthetically pleasing.

6. Crafting small artworks and daily necessities.

Stone offcuts can be made into lamp bases, desk calendar boards, pen holders, ink slabs, paper press rulers, painted decorative screens, as well as various door and table handles, presenting an elegant appearance.
